The Story Behind RyeBread Company
RyeBread Company was founded by creative entrepreneur Ryan Shelton as a symbol of resilience, faith, and self-expression. The brand’s roots trace back to Ryan’s childhood in East Atlanta, where culture, music, and street creativity shaped his identity. As a young creative, Ryan was deeply inspired by the groundbreaking artistry of Kanye West particularly the bold imagination surrounding The College Dropout era. Seeing how a simple but powerful character like the Dropout Bear could represent an entire movement sparked something in Ryan. It showed him that a logo could be more than just a design it could be a story, a feeling, and a symbol people rally behind. That inspiration planted the seed for what would eventually become the RyeBread logo: a slice of bread with a smiley face. Simple, memorable, and full of personality designed to be instantly recognizable while carrying deeper meaning. Ryan’s creative direction was also shaped by working with Grammy Award–winning director Bryan Barber, known for his visionary storytelling and iconic visuals in music and film. Through that mentorship, Ryan developed a stronger understanding of visual identity, culture-driven storytelling, and how to build a brand that feels authentic. But RyeBread is more than a brand. The name itself stands for Righteous Youth Empowered a message rooted in Ryan’s personal journey as a childhood cancer survivor. After overcoming that battle, Ryan made a promise to live with purpose and gratitude, giving honor to God for the life he was able to continue living. Today, RyeBread represents resilience, creativity, and faith. The smiling bread logo has become a badge of honor symbolizing positivity, perseverance, and the belief that even the simplest ideas can grow into something powerful. What started as inspiration from music, culture, and personal struggle has grown into a movement: a brand built on authenticity, storytelling, and the power of believing in your own vision.
